Films of Marilyn Monroe

FILMS OF MARILYN MONROE
This is just a great book on the films of Marilyn Monroe, without question, the most admired and sought after screen goddess and icon of the 20th Century. Mr. Buskin gives the reader a very good overview of all of Monroe's films - basically from her modeling years to the very first and most significant films in her tragically short career. The author has also provided on virtually every new chapter page an introduction to the year and movie with screen tests shots of the actress. The narratives and backgrounds, coupled with some never before seen "fabulous" photos of Monroe in the films which she played make this book a true "gotta-havit" in any Monroe afficionados' library.

BEAUTIFUL !
Many attractive photos of Marilyn Monroe! A wonderful book that explains all her films! I keep it on my coffee table to remind me of her & ALL her beauty!

Forging Peace: Intervention, Human Rights and the Management of Media Space
Published in Hardcover by Indiana University Press (December, 2002)
Authors: Mark Thompson and Monroe Edwin Price
Average review score:

exceptional discussion of media intervention
Forging Peace focuses primarily on the problems of media management in conflict and post-conflict situations. More specifically it examines situations where Western democracies, the United Nations, the OSCE and even the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) have attempted to transform the media sector in third party states. By examining the legal and political context of the new interest in media before, during, and after conflict, the contributors make current trends more visible and illuminate the relationship between speech and force in international affairs.
Together the contributors consider how international law is changing to encompass, reflect, and channel intervention practices. They each from various academic, legal and diplomatic perspectives look at `information intervention' through the lens of human rights principles, especially those relating to restrictions on hate speech and the right to receive and impart information. They examine the distinctions between State-authorized and rogue uses of media to incite conflict; between authorized and unauthorized incidents of information intervention; and between preventive intervention as opposed to that directed towards resolving conflict. And they test some of the justifications that are articulated for different forms of information intervention, actions that range from mere monitoring of broadcasts to the total reformulation of media laws, and ultimately the seizure or bombing of transmitters, and full-blown cyberwarfare.

Precise, Analytical, and Thoughtful
Monroe Price and Mark Thompson have assembled a fantastic array of scholars, thinkers, and lawyers who each bring to bear a unique perspective on the intractable relationship between media and conflict. From Alison DesForges's discussion about the impact of hate speech in Rwanda to former U.S. State Department official Jamie Metzl's discussion about United States actions in Somalia, Kosovo, and Serbia the book answers many interesting questions but raises many more. Of particular interest were Eric Blinderman's chapter which discussed the legal rules surrounding, what he terms "information intervention," and Stephanie Farrior's discussion about the legal principles related to hate speech.

Learning friendship and acceptance
This book had my two children (ages 6 and 8) bouncing up and down and giggling as I read it to them. They loved the story of Foursome's golfing adventures and crowded to see the colorful artwork, especially the spider's whimsical argyle pattern! After the book was over, we had a good discussion on getting along with people, making new friends, and trying new things.

A GREAT BOOK FOR KIDS & A GOOD REMINDER FOR ADULTS TOO!
Foursome the Spider shows Children & Adults in Colorful & Creative Simplicity that "We all benefit by getting along together" (a knowledgeable trait we adults like to teach our children but not always follow).
Also highlighted in this book is a non-violent sport that is challenging as well as rewarding.
For no matter how bad your game or day is, the game of golf is played in a relaxing, picturesque & tranquil environment.
Hopefully one day my children will generate interest in the game of golf from this book and who knows, maybe become the next Tiger Woods? TJN

Journeys Out of the Body

This book will take you to the top of the mountain!
If you ever wondered what dreams are made of, and how and why the Baby Boomers think like they do, then read this book. Think about it...how about the story of Superman, and of Peter Pan and Never Never land, and of Alice in Wonderland, the Wizard of Oz, Plastic man comic books, the super heroes, and on and on and on... where did the ideas come from? This book tells...from where! Out of Body experiences are real and frightening at times. I can't imagine being able to have some control over it...but Monroe claims that you can. Is this in fact the ultimate truth? I got so much from this book that it has changed the way I look at life forever..for the better. Remember, the reader will only take from this book what he or she brings to it. Like so much else in life..come to the river to drink the water and it will quench your thirst....this book has a permanent place in my library, it is the water...........

A classic on the subject of OOBE
This is the first book in Mr. Monroe's trilogy. He provides a straight-forward explaination of his experinces. No religious overtones, he does a pretty good job of not associating the subject with any stereotype ( cult, new-age, religous). It was the first book I read on the subject and is one I go back to often. After reading 15+ books on the subject I found it to the most informative on the experince itself

Intrigue and the human dance
If you don't like flying clothes, swords, bullets and men, don't read this book. If you can't take a solid helping of adult passion, this isn't the book for you. But, if you like sassy women who will do anything to get their men, and men who do everything in the calendar to get their hands on money, power, land and their women, this is the book you want. I liked the fun frantic pace and the woman who can say no, but won't take it for an answer. There is just enough history for spice, but not enough to get in the way. So for a fun romp through beds, marriages, prisons and Napoleonic spies who forgot to come in from the cold, click this into your shopping cart right now.

More than Intriguing
I was expecting a typical romance novel but actually got more than I bargained for. Ms. Monroe takes the reader beyond romance and into mystery and murder. Two lovers, Claudia and Alexander, are caught in a conspiracy that involves the murder of Napoleon. Claudia is forced into a loveless marriage by her father. She meets and then falls in love with Alexander who is her husband's most hated enemy. This book is too good to be summarized in 1000 words. Each chapter carries the reader into a new adventure or emotion. I could not put the book down and definitely will not loan it to anyone. Everyone should get their own copy of the book. It is a definite must read. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. Finally, a romance for the thinking woman!!

The Original WWJD Book/Author
I am ordering several of these as gifts! What a great all-occasion "stocking stuffer"! When I moved to my present location, I passed the library - where they were giving away books to make more room(?)! I came across the original edition of this book and it started me to thinking of how I could actually put His teachings to work in my life on a daily basis, and become a better example of what Christian- "ity" is really supposed to be: Christian, literally translated, meaning - "Christ-like" - and all actions coming from a center of love. Or: WWJD? I hadn't been aware of WWJD?, but I soon came across the same book, in paperback, on a revolving rack at a drugstore - then the jewelry started popping up. Christmas, I found WWJD? music on CD! This is what the author was intending to happen when he wrote the book back then! This is an extremely readable book, for all ages - young and old - with a wonderful storyline that represents an entire town that has met the pastor's challenge of trying for a full year to do as Jesus would do. They thought, as Christians, it would be a simple thing - but as you will see in this book, sometimes the simplest things can be the hardest to do! After I read the book, I wanted to be a part of something like was illustrated here. I'm working on it! It would be especially fun, even, for small towns to try it and see if they could set a prototype of this sort - or even challenge the church-goers where you live to try it. This book tells us how. But, read it, first, just because it's so GOOD!

What an awesome book!!
In His Steps is without a doubt a great book, and it is perhaps the second best book I have ever read, the best being the Bible itself, of course. It is such a great book not because it employs superb imagery, excellent symbolism, or the type of plot that would "woo" critics over, but because of the very core of the book, its message. The message is one whose roots go way down into what it means to be a Christian, a follower of Christ. What does it mean to follow Christ in every aspect of life? This Bible-based book puts forth a challenge to do just that through one question that is the main point of the book, "What Would Jesus Do?" - that is, to do what Jesus would do in every situation we are in. That question - "What Would Jesus Do?" - is one that should echo around at all times in the minds of those who profess to be Christians. It is a question that is not easy to answer, and Jesus never said it would be; He just said, "Pick up your cross, and follow Me." It is the greatest challenge, adventure, and fulfillment in life to follow Christ, to continually ask that question and use it as the basis for every action throughout our lifetimes. That's what this book puts forth, and that it why it is such a great book. This book has sparked a revolution in my life about what it means to follow Christ. What Would Jesus Do? That's what it means to follow Christ all the way - to give your life to Him as He gave His life to you and follow Him as Savior, Lord, and Master. What Would Jesus Do? - John Becker

Marilyn by Moonlight: A Remembrance in Rare Photos
It is just a little difficult to state; at the risk of sounding completely redundant, however, "beauty is beauty". When it came to Marilyn Monroe, she was synonomous with the word. This book was written by one of Monroe's fan clubs, (Marilyn Remembered Club). It presents to the reader previously unpublished photos of her during her childhood thru the last days of her life. The book features truly enjoyable and memorable photos from some of her most significant films. Some even show her posing candidly with fans off the set in her "Sugar" Kovalschek costume, from "Some Like It Hot". "Marilyn By Moolight: A Remembrance in Rare Photos", should be a must have addition to any serious Monroe fan as well as any person who enjoys viewing a person who in my opinion personified,(and still does), what feminine beauty is all about. I heartily endorse this book. It is a proud addition to my extensive "Marilyn Monroe" collection.

excellent photo book
This book is written by the Marilyn Remembered Fan Club with Quotes by Marilyn Monroe and containes some of the most beautiful digitally restored photo's of her. This is one book to own if you are looking for a MM book.
